London Luton Airport enjoyed another brisk month of passenger growth after welcoming more than 1.3m travellers through its doors last month.
The South East airport, which has been gradually building impressive numbers in recent years, saw a 16% increase year-on-year in the number of passengers utilising the airport as it embarks on its wide-ranging expansion plans.
LLA has already expanded retail space at the airport, increasing the number of retail and restaurant units with the addition of a new Bella Italia restaurant and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, with healthy fast food brand FRISKA and high-street cafe chain Benugo set to open in the summer.
Meanwhile, the airport has its sights set on surpassing the 18m annual passenger mark within three years as part of its £110m terminal redevelopment programme and the planned light rail link which will finally link the airport directly to central London.
Commenting on the latest figures, Nick Barton, Chief Executive Officer of LLA, said: “The Easter getaway always makes for a busy period at the airport but this year saw record passenger demand.
“Customers are now starting to see the benefits of our investment, as we transform every area of the airport experience, both in the terminal and off-site through improved transport connections.”
Last month, LLA revealed that it had welcomed a record 15m passengers to the airport over the previous 12 months.
