Glasgow Airport passenger numbers rise 7.7 per cent but figures are down at Aberdeen

International numbers at Glasgow are up 20 per cent thanks to strong demand for new routes including Paris and Dusseldorf and Emirates’ Dubai service – although domestic traffic is down 1.4 per cent Glasgow Airport has reported strong February passenger growth – though figures were down again at Aberdeen. Passenger numbers rose by 19% at London Luton Airport in February

Over 1 million passengers travelled through the airport 35 consecutive months of double-digit passenger growth 4 new routes due to commence this month London Luton Airport (LLA) saw passenger numbers grow by 19.5% in February compared with the same month last year. Over one million travellers passed through the airport, marking thirty-five consecutive months of double-digit passenger growth. To meet this continued demand, LLA is making the largest single investment in the airport’s history to upgrade the airport’s facilities and improve the passenger experience. Strong +20.3% growth on long-haul routes drives Gatwick’s record-breaking February

Gatwick Airport saw a +9.9% jump in passenger traffic last month driven by +20.3% year-on-year growth on long-haul routes. The airport handled 3.0 million passengers to record its busiest-ever February. Dubai was the airport’s most popular long-haul destination, with 76,965 passengers visiting – up +8% year-on-year. Gatwick said the increase was driven by a rise in passengers booking a Valentine’s break there. Other destinations the airport said had also likely benefitted from the “Valentine’s effect” include St Lucia (+52%), New York (+66%), and Paris (+77%). New self-service touchless bag drop deployed at London Luton airport

The first touchless T-Series bag drop in the UK has been deployed at London Luton airport, streamlining and simplifying the baggage check-in process. The new self-service bag drop from Rockwell Collins employs a two-step approach: passengers first use their reference number to print a boarding card and/or weigh their bag and print a tag. Once tagged, the luggage is taken to the self-service kiosk and the bag is automatically dispatched. Gatwick pax up +9.9% to 3m record breaking February

London Gatwick Airport handled a total of 3m passengers (+9.9%) in February, with its long-haul routes recording very strong growth of +20.3% in the period compared with February 2016. Gatwick management said that its long-haul growth ‘once again’ demonstrates the importance of Gatwick Airport as a business link, which is playing ‘a key role’ in connecting Britain to important growth markets. Gatwick a ‘credible option’ for runway expansion as passenger numbers rise

Gatwick Airport insists it remains a “credible and deliverable option” for runway expansion after recording almost double-digit growth in passenger numbers last month. Some three million people used the West Sussex airport in February, up 9.9% on the same month in 2016 despite there being one day fewer. Its long-haul routes were up 20.3%, while cargo grew by 6%.
