October has been the busiest month for Glasgow Airport in eight years thanks to its 836,798 people travelling through it, which has meant an annual rise of 14%. Moreover, this airport has recorded one million passengers more throughout last year.

For 31 consecutive months, Glasgow Airport has increased the number of passengers and last month, this airport recorded its busiest month after welcoming 896,226 people, which means a growth of 14.5% per year. Glasgow Airport registered a great volume of international traffic, which was influenced by sport events such as the Davis Cup or the Scotland v Germany Euro 2016 and rose by 16%. In addition, other factors were the new routes to Eastern European cities Vilnius and Lublin launched by Wizz Air recently. Whereas, Air Canada has stated that there will be a new route between Glasgow Airport to Toronto from next Summer.

In September, the number of people that has travelled through Gatwick Airport increased by 6% compared to the previous year, reaching 4 million passengers. In addition to this, Gatwick has achieved 31 consecutive months of growth, welcoming 39.7 million passengers to the airport last year.

According to the European region of Airports Council International (ACI Europe), Glasgow Airport was one of fastest expanding airports in Europe in August. ACI Europe announced it in its latest traffic report last 7th October. In the report Glasgow Airport was positioned in fourth place within the fastest growing airport category, with annual passenger traffic increasing by 12.2 per cent. In August, Glasgow Airport recorded growth for its 30th consecutive month, with a total of 878,515 travellers using the airport. The Romanian airline Blue Air has recently announced that direct flights from Glasgow to Bucharest will be one of the 42 new routes set in Glasgow Airport for 2016. These flights will be operated from 17th December of 2015 and they will be offered twice a week (Thursday and Sunday). It is not possible to fly to Bucharest from any other Scottish airport, which means that it will be the first connecting link between the Romanian city and Scotland.
