Milestone month as London Gatwick hits record traffic high

UK. London Gatwick Airport has achieved the busiest month in its 80 year history, with 4.6 million passengers travelling through the airport in July. The figure was a rise of +6.9% on the same month last year. Traffic on long-haul routes climbed +23% versus last July. North Atlantic routes grew +49.9% with Toronto up by +106.4%, Calgary +120.8% and Vancouver +85.4%. Other transatlantic destinations showing growth included Los Angeles (+41%), Puerto Vallarta (+29%) and (Orlando +11%). Holiday destinations that grew strongly in July included Tivat (+73%), Bilbao (+69%), Pula (+64%), Cagliari (+56%) and Chania (+55%). Mayor calls on the Prime Minister to back Gatwick Airport as government still silent on aviation

The mayor of London has called on Prime Minister Theresa May to back Gatwick to expand aviation capacity in the south east. Khan said he has written to May to urge her on making a decision on what should be a top priority for the government and agree with him that a second runway should be built at Gatwick Airport. Newly-appointed transport minister Chris Grayling has said making a decision is a top priority, while chancellor Philip Hammond has said he would want to review the evidence. It is time to celebrate another undeniable success of Glasgow Airport: it has been awarded Airport Council International Europe’s (ACI Europe) prestigious Best Airport Award at a ceremony organised by Athens International Airport last Tuesday 21st June 2016. This prize (“Best Airport, 5-10 million passengers”) recognises the user experience improvement and the facilities development and, therefore, ensures new routes and services in this Airport in the future. This award has come a week following Glasgow Airport also being proclaimed the Scottish Airport of the Year. In addition the Airport owns the title of the UK Airport of the Year and the Airport Operators Association (AOA) Airport of the Year.

London Luton Airport’s Passenger Numbers Grow

• 1.43 million passengers flew during June • 17.7% increase in passenger numbers compared with June 2015 The number of passengers using London Luton Airport (LLA) has increased for the 27th month in a row. Passenger numbers grew by 17.7% in June compared with the same month last year, with more than 1.4 million travellers passing through the airport.

Historical record: more than 9 million passengers at Glasgow Airport

This excellent news couldn´t have come at a better moment, as Glasgow Airport is celebrating its 50th anniversary. For all these years, the details haven’t ceased to improve. On the contrary, in 2016 Glasgow Airport achieved a historical record, in which more than 9 million passengers travelled through the airport during a rolling 12-month period. Regarding the number of passengers that travelled through this Airport in May, it has represented an increased of 5.5% on the same period last year. It is important to highlight that it means another record, since last month witnessed the busiest May in its history, with almost 830,000 people travelling through its doors.
