Bidding to start for £150m Luton Airport rail link

Prequalification of firms will start in February for £150m worth of construction work for the planned light railway system for Luton Airport The 2.2 km long guided mass rapid transit passenger system will run between two purpose-built stations, heading out from Stirling Place, close to Luton Airport Parkway station, to the airport terminal.

Gatwick reports record passenger traffic in November

The UK’s Gatwick Airport has welcomed an additional 2.7 million passengers to its annual passenger number, with a record 2.8 million passengers travelling to and from the airport in November this year. The increase in the figures records a 7.3% growth in passenger traffic compared to that in the same month last year. Additionally, long-haul services at the airport increased significantly by 20% last month, which has driven a cargo growth of 12% during the same period.

Luton airport adds new ePassport gates

Britain’s Luton Airport has responded to increasing demand by installing five new biometric ePassport gates. The facial recognition-enabled gates bring the total number at Luton to 15. The airport recorded a 13 per cent increase in passengers in November, its 32nd consecutive month of passenger growth, reports Business Traveller. The airport says it is currently the only London airport without an “express-style” rail service offering at least four trains per hour to central London, and has called on the government to change this “through the upcoming East Midlands rail refranchising process”. Plans approved for direct Glasgow Airport rail link

Council leaders have formally backed plans to build a direct rail link between Glasgow Airport, Paisley and Glasgow city centre. The £144 million Glasgow Airport Access Project is the flagship project for the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal. Plans unveiled last month showed journeys to and from the airport would be transformed as a state-of-the-art system carries passengers on specially designed tram-trains using both the existing railway network and a new light rail spur from Paisley to the airport. London Luton Airport’s passenger numbers were up 13 per cent in November

London Luton Airport (LLA) had a record-breaking month with 13 per cent passenger growth in November. This month was the London airport’s 32nd consecutive month of passenger growth, following its milestone in October of 14 million passengers. LLA is currently investing more than £110m to increasing the airport’s capacity from 12m to 18m passengers per year by 2020.
