Glasgow Airport hails busiest ever start to a year

Glasgow Airport has had its busiest ever start to a year with almost 600,000 passengers travelling through it in January. A total of 597,594 passengers used the airport, up 8.4% from the first month of 2016. International traffic was a key factor with 16.1% growth put down to strong demand on routes to Toronto, New York and Dubai. European traffic was up by 21.4%, while domestic passenger levels increased by 2%. Around 9.4 million people used the airport last year. Passenger numbers rise by 20% in January at London Luton

Luton sees big passenger increase as it reports its figures for January. London Luton Airport (LLA) enjoyed a bright start to 2017 as passenger numbers grew by 20.1% in January compared with the same month last year. Over 985,000 travellers passed through the airport last month, representing thirty-four consecutive months of double-digit passenger growth. LLA is currently undergoing a major redevelopment in order to meet this rapid growth in demand. Construction is well underway to upgrade the airport’s facilities, improving the passenger experience and increasing capacity by 50% to 18 million by 2020. British holidaymakers hitting the slopes this February half term could be spending more on airport parking than their flight. Swingeing parking charges and falling air fares means have made it more expensive for many people to leave their car at the airport, than fly hundreds of miles to their holiday destination. Avoid Glasgow “kiss and fly” tax by pre-booking parking

Airport passengers are advised to book parking ahead of travel following news Glasgow Airport will introduce a “kiss and fly” tax in April. It has been announced that drivers dropping off passengers are set to pay £2 for a 10-minute stay at the airport’s on-site car parks. The charge will coincide with the opening of a new pickup and drop-off zone opposite the main terminal, designed to reduce congestion. Dubbed the “kiss and fly tax”, the charge is being implemented after “exhausting all possible alternatives” to ease traffic at the airport. Luton Airport has busiest ever year

A total of 14.5 million passengers travelled through London Luton Airport (LLA) last year, making 2016 the busiest year ever in the airport’s history The record figure represents annual growth of 18.5% compared to 2015. LLA has now seen thirty three months of consecutive passenger growth, with each percentage increase reaching double digits. December saw a 24.6% rise in passenger numbers compared with the same month in 2015. To meet the continued demand from passengers, the largest single investment in its 79 history is underway to transform the airport.
